The Marjan hill, preserved area in the west of Split, is actually a peninsula with a variety of plants, forests as well as walking places, view points and swimming places. It is a favorite meeting place of the inhabitants of Split, a convenient place for various recreation activities. On the west side of the peninsula there is a place called "Santine stine", which is popular climbing place in this area. It become known after one of the croatian´s first championships in climbing, held in April, 1986. There are not many towns with a climbing places within a reach.
Gray and yellow limestone. Rather sharp, poor at some places; partly contains crystal sediments. All the routes are bolted. Names of the routes are not written.
Numerous camps (closed in winter) and hotels in and around Split. Prices of private accommodation are very reasonable when tourist season is over.
Autumn to spring. Perfect winter climbing area! Rock is protected from cold and unpleasant winds, particularly Bura. In summer climb only late in the afternoon.
Kozjak-Markezina greda, Mosor (all these climbing places have longer routes of more alpine character - pitons, nuts, etc.) The climbing place on an extra quality rock above Trogir is just been made.
